Returning to Sport

Did you know:

  • Most General Primary Doctors and General Orthopedic Surgeons don’t use functional assessments to clear you to return to a sport 😮

  • They will often use “time” as a guide and a few “stress” tests and “CLEAR" you to return

    • 🤔 You might be asking yourself:

      • “What does “CLEAR” mean?”

      • “So, do I just go back to playing… like tomorrow? When? How?”

      • “This normal motion doesn’t feel normal anymore, how am I supposed to make it feel normal?!?!?”

  • Your Doctor should work closely with a Sports Specialized Physical Therapist (like Brittany) to determine each individuals readiness to return to their activity. This likely doesn’t happen because:

    • Insurance companies don’t want to pay for you to “return” to a sport, so they won’t cover it $$$ because it’s not “medically necessary”

    • General Doctors do not have TIME built into their schedules to make a special return to sport plan for you

  • 👋 This is where I (Brittany) come in! 👋

    • I use research based tests and take objective measurements to compare where you start, after an injury, to where you need to be in order to be considered “safe” to return to your sport.

    • TEST DO NOT GUESS is my motto

    • Here’s why you should hire me to get you back to play:

      • I ask you about your goals

      • I ask you about your timeline

      • I make YOU an individualized PLAN based on tests and measurements

      • I can actually “CLEAR” you to return to your sport and you will 💯% know what I mean and you will 💯% know how to do it

  • In the Sports Specialized profession of Physical Therapy, once you have passed isolated strength tests and perform basic movement patterns with confidence, then we will start sport specific agility testing (such as a single leg hop for distance or plank with timed shoulder taps) as well as start an Interval Sports Program, please read Blog Post to understand more about this process.
